I want to share my paintings with the world and find a home for them. My paintings are to be a faithful record of the time they were made and should reveal periods of time in history. Sincerely, Gar Webb
Going To California

1974 - 30” x 36” Acrylic on Canvas. I was influenced by Picasso when I was ten years old and other Dada painters. I fell in love with the cubistic, surreal, abstract art paintings as a young artist. I was motivated to do this painting from my surfing safari trip from Florida to California in 1971. I remember the miles and miles of the highways and beautiful night time and daytime skies expressed in Going To California. Wonderfully balanced golden browns create the face with my blue eyes. The yellow golden sun and multi colored sky blends beautifully with the cubistic face and deep blue green wave. The light and dark tones create a comfortable contrast in colors. I’ve used a lot of blue, yellow, and gold California colors to separate the variety of shapes bringing this painting into perspectives and balance, creating a fantastic piece of modern, cubistic, surreal art. Painting is in excellent condition.
